Access to water is an important consideration when establishing your Haskap plantation. Depending on your climate, supplemental irrigation – particularly for a new plot – can be key to effective growth. Of particular note is the fact that Haskap are relatively shallow-rooted bushes, thus irrigation should be planned accordingly to ensure sufficient moisture during their growth. Haskap plants complete their fruit production and ripening cycle by early Summer, usually before hot dry conditions occur for most Eastern parts of Northern regions. While irrigation may not be essential, irrigation will be helpful for early establishment of new plantations and for establishing stronger plants post-harvest.
Irrigation systems are a valuable consideration when planning your Haskap crop, depending on climatic conditions. Adequate soil moisture is essential to the healthful growth of Haskap plants.
